First off, I want to apologize to the people that support our team for Gears of War. I will not say that we will “never” return to play Gears of War 3 (should it be on the MLG Pro circuit), but after dealing with the issues we experienced this past season, I think we are going to give Epic a rest.
The title of this particular article reflects the simple notion, that I acknowledge it will be a long road for our team. We are going cold turkey into the Halo world and I do not expect it to be an easy ride to the top. Any preconceived notion that you (the reader, competitor, fan) believe we have about dominating the field — toss that out the window. Am I saying we’re not confident? Hell NO! I think my team is as confident as ever about our potential to be great.
I am conceding to the fact that this will be no “walk in the park.” We will work, like you have never seen a team work before, to be the very best team out there. Anytime I think about competing, especially considering how fierce the competition will be on Reach, I keep hearing the words Will Smith said in an interview with Tavis Smiley back in ’07. Of all the wisdom and motivation he discussed I only have two points that I want to post:
I stated that I firmly believe that I can change the perception of Gaming Culture. It is as simple as me believing it and making it happen. Making the choice to play Halo: Reach is mine and I want to create my own possibilities.
- Create your own possibilities. (Will Smith)
I want to represent possibilities. I want to represent the idea that you really can make what you want. I believe that I can create whatever I want to create. If I could put my head on it right, study it, learn the patterns… I feel very strongly that we are who we choose to be.
I absolutely will not be outworked. You may play more games than me, you may be more talented than me, or you may have played Halo longer than me. None of that matters, you will not outwork me and you will not put in more time improving your team than I will. No questions asked, end of story.
- Don’t be outworked. (Will Smith)
I will not be outworked. Period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me. You might be all of those things…but if we get on the treadmill together—there are two things: you’re getting off first or I’m gonna die. It’s really that simple. You are not gonna outwork me. The guy who is willing to hustle the most is gonna be the guy who just gets that loose ball.
We are going to D.C. and we expect the competition to be top notch. We expect a long, arduous path ahead and I welcome the challenge, but know two things:
- I believe in endless possibilities
- I will not be outworked
