Currently Testing: AverMedia’s Live Gamer HD

AverMedia recently sent their Live Gamer HD capture card to see how I thought it stacked up against some of the others I’ve used in the past. I won’t have a detailed review available until Aver’s software is aligned with the Xsplit 1.1 software update sometime at the end of the month. Some general specs on the Live Gamer HD:

I’ll have a first look video highlighting what’s in the box and how to install the device up within the week. Additionally, I ran a few live streams and captured video this past weekend to run it through some early testing and I’ve embedded those videos below. It’s worth noting that I can upload a video in 1080p if I chose to, but can’t do it via streaming.

What are your hardware specs in the machine this cap card is installed in? I had an issue when I owned my Black Magic Intensity Pro, where the internal card caused my motherboard and processor to stop working (unable to reach a post-boot), which in turn caused me to replace all of that hardware through many warranty RMAs. The Cap card itself worked fine though, as I extensively tested it on my friends desktop. It apparently did not like my configuration one bit. I eventually sold the card to Waldo, from Gearscon. Ultimately I lost money on the deal, and I am still unable to record any of my stuff. So I’ve been waiting for this new product from Avermedia, so that maybe I could begin capturing my gameplay.

My specs were top notch too. So, it shouldn’t of been a hardware limitation, as it’s was all new parts. I’m running:

Asus P67 Sabertooth rev 3 Motherboard
16 gb of Corsair Vengeance RAM
Intel i7 2600k Processor
ASUS GTX 480 GPU
Two 1.5 tb drives for storage of my clips
Two 60 gb SSDs for my OS installs

I’m extremely excited to hear your thought on this product. From just watching the Youtube vids above, I noticed in the GRFS video above, around the 11 minute mark, there is some in-game audio lag by a few seconds, that certainly seems out of sync. Is this something you’ve noticed to be a further issue KL?

  Your machine is about the same as mine.
  
  I have 12GB of ram, GTX 560ti gpu and everything else is about the same. I don’t know how running a dual OS will fair in determining if it will brick the PCI-E. Skyllus has a BMI in the other PC next to mine so we’ll do some comparisons on total CPU usage. His rig is just a smidge less beefy than my own. From what I’ve experienced thus far, it’s been running without too many issues.
  
  As far as the second video, I’m not sure what happened with the audio. I think it was on YouTube’s end because the audio on the original video is perfect.

    Thanks man for the information, good to know the audio issue isn’t prevalent. I sent a request to Avermedia, asking about the compatibility of the Live Gamer HD with my machine as well.
    
    I think the thing I’m most worried about is that I’ve had my PC break several times, and I’m a designer. Due to this, I was unable to do easily complete a lot of work for my classes at school, because I had to bum off other students etc. As well as not being able to do things for the gaming community. I wasn’t able to help out Gearscon with a lot of things, or do work for You or Blaze. Just by me trying to get a capture card working in my rig, to be more involved with the Gears community…It not working (halting my entire system 2 times) was negatively hurting me. Not having a computer for several months, and trying to complete Design work is REALLY hard, lol.So, now with Avermedia not having a good support panel, I just really don’t want to throw my hat back into the ring for another possible failure. There is literally no one to call from Avermedia, no phone support at all. Which is extremely frustrating when trying to find an answer to a simple question that ultimately decides if I am going to spend money on their product or not.I’d love to cap videos, not to become YT famous or anything. Just to document and review my gameplay to become better, and maybe practice editing… but it takes a lot to try to go out on a limb a third time when buying a very expensive product that could easily jeopardize me again. I still plan to get one possibly, unless a more amazing external solution comes along.
