If you happened to check my Twitter updates yesterday, you might have read that I recently purchased a new LCD TV. I was looking for something between 19″ – 22″ with a response time no higher than 5ms. My intentions were to buy an LCD that was portable and easy to move around so that I could quickly switch areas of the LAN Center for recording purposes. I only received a couple updates to my initial tweet. One, by @DanielSneed was pretty much spot on with the brand I was thinking about purchasing, his reply read:
Sure enough when I arrived at Walmart I checked the two brands that most interested me: Samsung and Vizio. Although I admittingly am a big time Samsung fanboy, I did not want to drop $370 on a 24″ monitor. I have owned two Samsung Syncmaster Monitors (my personal preference) and a Samsung Syncmaster T240HD LCD TV/Monitor. If I ventured an hour or so to the nearest Best Buy, I may have been able to find a smaller size Samsung LCD and made yet another Samsung purchase. Sadly, that was not the case and contrary to what you may be thinking I am very familiar with Vizio LCDs (eBash uses them).
After pouting about Walmart’s terrible selection of Samsung LCD’s I ventured over to the Vizio section. I have not used a Vizio smaller than 32 inches so before I settled on my purchase, I whipped out my Droid and did a bit of user review investigating on the 19″ and 22″ Vizio models (gotta love smartphones). I also did a thorough check of the inputs, outputs and specs which was shortly thereafter, reaffirmed by the user reviews.
The last deciding factor was obviously the price, remember I wanted the most portable LCD I could purchase that provided some nice recording options. The 22″ model was priced at $268.95 while the 19″ model was priced at $218.95 — fairly easy choice after it was all said and done. I will provide some more feedback on the LCD after I have used it for about a week, in the meantime check out the new setup and tell me what you think.
