The MLG Website is Living in 2006 – Update Please!
It is now 2010 and for some reason I feel like the MLG Website is still built for people browsing the internet on IE6. One of the main reasons I stopped blogging on the MLG website is because the infrastructure of the website feels older than the internet itself. I don’t use Internet Explorer and haven’t for maybe 3-4 years. I use Google Chrome, a browser I HIGHLY recommend to all internet users browsing on anything else. I cannot utilize half of the website, apparently it is only optimized for Internet Explorer and I’m sure some FireFox users are having similar problems. Here are a few things wrong with browsing in Chrome:
- On the front page, I cannot click between “Top Stories/Top Videos” in the news rotator.
- On the forums I cannot click anything related to my User Account (User CP, FAQ, Calendar, etc)
- The Photo Gallery is broken on multiple browsers
- Video (VoD) Playback using Chrome is horrendous I usually have to switch to IE8 (IE Sucks)
Nearly everyone on MLG’s staff has to be using a computer or mobile device that supports Web 2.0 content and the website barely has any functionality for the new internet. Where’s my Facebook Connect button that actually makes commenting on articles worthwhile and fun? Even the interesting articles are a snooze because the commenting system is attached to the forums – that seems so technologically “ghetto.” Please build a better commenting system one that actually makes sense! There also seems to be a number of Pro Players and staff making the switch to Twitter as a default way to communicate with other gamers and fans quickly, yet there is no integration on the MLG website. I beat integrating Twitter to my blog faster than MLG has to their website – something is wrong with that picture. The best technological feat coming from the site is the Live Stream feature, however there are no social chat options integrated into the stream and it’s only active four or five times a year. A splash page showing the MLG presence on the social scene is not going to cut it, considering that a growing chunk of information is being shared in the social stream.
Lastly, please create a Mobile App for either Gamebattles, MLG or BOTH so that I can actually use my Droid to quickly find information, tweet and share my excitement about MLG on Facebook. We do not have to go over statistics on the growing number of people browsing the internet on their phones – let’s just say it is quite a bit. It would be nice to see an official Major League Gaming app that had some type of usefulness while I’m waiting on my next flight to get to a 2010 Pro Circuit event. I can go on and on with a detailed list of improvements, but basically I’m only trying to let all my non-gaming friends know that I’m a Pro and I want you to make it easier — Thanks!
